19-22 Jan 2010. The stage is set for another awesome week of teaching and sharing together what it means to run youth ministries that will produce fruit that will last!
PYLC is a four day residential youth ministry leadership conference held every January. It has been running since 2002 and it is operated through the trans-denominational not for profit organisation called Christian Conventions of WA (CCOWA). They also run Womens, Mens, Children and Young Adults conventions throughout the year.
Here's an idea of what the next awesome installment of PYLC is going to look like!...
Strands
The strand groups are a central part of PYLC. These are daily teaching times when youth leaders learn essential skills in handling God's Word. The whole PYLC community will break up into these small groups each day to get to know each other more as well as learning heaps about God in his Word and how to teach it.
Which Strand group will I be in?
The strand group you will be in depends on how many times you have attended PYLC. If this is your first year you will be in a first year strand group. If it's your second year, a second year group and third years you guessed it, strand group three. If you have done more than three years at PYLC you move up into the Master Classes...
Speakers
Peter Stedman
Jesus found Pete when he was in Year nine. By the grace of God, he is now one of the assistant ministers at St Andrew's Anglican Church, Roseville in Sydney. In his ministry there he pastors a new church plant, has oversight of an Internship Programme and is responsible for training people across the five congregations. He is married to Bree and is dad to Suzannah and baby Stedman (due December 23rd!). He loves spending time with his family, lecturing theology in Africa, watching rugby league, pulling fish out of the ocean and speaking to people about Jesus Christ his Lord. Pete has been on staff at St Andrew's for three years. Pete is looking forward to bringing us talks on the old testament book of Exodus.
Don West
Don was converted in his last year of high school through the witness and teaching of youth group leaders. His mum had prayed with him as a child and his school chaplain put up with his paltry attempts to deny the historical existence of Jesus Christ, before the God who rules the waves and forgives the guilty brought him from darkness to light. A pastor for 14 years, Don is now Principal at Trinity Theological College, where he also teaches New and Old Testament exegesis and Christian leadership. Don and his wife Athena have been blessed with three wonderful daughters and two sons-in-law. Their passion is that people come to know the saving grace of God in his Son. Don will be speaking to us from Matthew's gospel and will be doing a series on the Sermon on the Mount.
Program
The daily program runs from 7.30am with breakfast and concludes at around 9.30pm with supper, with a whole lot in between! Stay tuned for a daily program in November.
Master Class
Master Classes are designed for those more experienced youth leaders who have completed the basic three years of PYLC biblical strand material but still want more!
Again in 2010 we are joined by Jon Thorpe the Director of Training from Youthworks College (NSW), to run four great days of Master Classes.
Master Classes run in the morning sessions during the strand groups. Why not bring yourself down for a great source of annual professional development?
Due to the popularity of these classes we are now offering them as free standing classes. So you dont have to come to all of PYLC to do the Master classes.
See the registration information for details.
The Master Class topic in 2010 will be:
How to write and deliver a dynamic bible based Youth Talk.
During this Masterclass you will have the thrill of creating your own talk for young people and get to deliver it to other Master Class-mates! You will be guided all the way by Jon and will have the willing support of others along for the same journey.
Workshops
Mixing theory and practice are the practical workshop run everyday at PYLC. The workshops cover different aspects of youth ministry leadership.
Each strand year group will have different workshops, as do the Master class attendees. Details of all workshops will be announced in November.
Electives-NEW
All new to PYLC 2010 will be our topical electives. These are optional sessions which will be run during the afternoon free-time. They are designed to be driven by leader's content but in a forum- based format. This wil give you maximum time for interacting with the topic and the chance to sit under the wisdom of some awesome leaders who are in it for the long haul!
So if you just can't imagine chiiling out by the pool and want to sink your teeth into topical issues facing youth ministry today these will be for you. Watch this space for the elective topics to be announced in November.
