Have you ever heard the saying "Life wasn't meant to be easy"? We might think that it applies to everything from a rough day at work, to a sleepless night, our car breaking down or something much more serious.

1 Peter was written to Christians for whom life wasn't easy. They were people with a foot in two worlds, strangers here because they'd been given a living hope and an inheritance in heaven. They were experiencing the harsh reality of life as followers of the Lord Jesus living in a world that was hostile to the gospel.

We may not experience the same sort of persecution for following Jesus as they did, but we do live in a world that is hostile to Jesus and his gospel. Peter writes to show us how to respond when life gets tough. He reminds God's people that they are safely in His hands, whatever the circumstances, and He will bring them home.
