Cornerstone is a weekend on the best Bible teaching - relevant, incisive, challenging, inspiring and gutsy. It is for young adults (from 18-39) in Perth and WA. It has a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of time to meet people from a variety of churches and backgrounds centred around Bible talks, complimented by electives and small group discussions, singing and praying.
Designing Church
What should church look like?
We've all done it. It's usually halfway through a church service when we start daydreaming about what church would be like if we were in charge. But what should church look like? Contemporary? What's the role of tradition? Can you be reflective and rejoice at the same time? What sort of music should we ave? In fact, why do we sing anyway? Is it better to be more spontaneous or more organized? And come to think of it, what is church?! At Cornerstone 2008 we'll be investigating the big questions facing you and your church today.
Cornerstone 2008 will be held on February 29 - March 3.
Cornerstone is trans-denominational. Our aim is to equip young people to know and serve Jesus Christ in their churches and in the world. It is organised by a group of energetic and enthusiastic people from a variety of denominations and churches in Perth, united by our conviction that Cornerstone will achieve great things in the lives of those who come. It has been running for 23 years with speakers such as John Chapman, John Dickson, Shaun Potts, Ian Powell, Paul Quick, Matthew Malcolm, Allan Chapple, Ron Nugent, Al Stewart and Mike Raiter.
Our speakers come from a variety of places and churches, but they share the conviction that God speaks to us through his Word, the Bible. And what God says is relevant, important and life-changing.
Cornerstone is also now part of the Christian Conventions of WA.
Marty Foord
Marty will be challenging us to think christianly about our Aussie culture and the church, bringing us three talks on "God's Church in our Changing Culture."
Marty teaches at Trinity Theological College here in Perth in the areas of systematic theology and church history. Marty is passionate about the church as God's great vehicle of mission, and the gospel as news for the public square.
Sam Chan
Sam will be challenging us with three talks from 1 Corinthians with the theme "Tough Words to Toughen Up Your Church".
Sam teaches at Sydney Missionary and Bible College (SMBC) in the areas of preaching, evangelism, ethics and theology. In the past he has worked as a doctor; and enjoys rugby, cricket, and sitting in coffee shops while his wife Stephanie goes shopping.
Phil Davidson
Phil will be encouraging us with breathtaking songs throughout the weekend and especially in a concert on Saturday night.
Phil is a premier singer/songwriter who has toured in Ireland, the UK, Canada, and the USA. Originally from Northern Ireland, he now lives in the Blue Mountains with his wife Judy and their three children.
